Yaku-shima is a remote island located about 60 km south-southwest from the southernmost tip of Kyushu. This historical festival is held Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the first week of August in Oita city. The sights differ each day.

Day 2: Includes traditional dances and other exciting events.
Day 3: Features astounding fireworks at the Oita Riverside.

Sakurajima, the symbol of Kagoshima, is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan. Volcanic plumes continuously rise from the living Earth, giving the feeling of life in far-gone-times. Originally, Sakurajima was not connected with the Kyushu mainland, but in 1914, as a result of a large eruption and huge lava flow, a land bridge was formed.
Yunohira Observatory is the nearest to the summit of all Sakurajima Observatories.

Selected in "100 Japanese Waterfalls", Harajiri is about 20m high and 120m wide. The falls are unique in that they appeared suddenly in the area of a paddy field as a result of a volcanic eruption of Mt. Aso about 90,000 years ago.
The largest underwater cave in Japan, the Inazumi cave, is located about 30-minute drive from Harajiri waterfall.
Nagasaki
Obon is a traditional memorial ceremony held throughout Nagasaki prefecture during August. Throughout Japan, Obon, a festival for the souls of the deceased takes place. In Nagasaki they have a unique custom. People in Nagasaki transport the spirit of their ancestors on handmade ships called a ‘spirit ship’ while cleaning the path with a firecrackers. It is a loud and joyous event - well worth visiting.

Aoshima is a small island about 1.5 km in circumference with a unique and somewhat mysterious landscape of wavy rocks called the Devil's Washboard. In the past, the entire island was considered as a spiritual area, and entering by the public was prohibited. Even today, one enters the island via a ‘Torii’ (shinto gate) of Aoshima Shrine, to find the ‘marriage forest’ of thickly grown palm trees and other lush vegetation.

Sasebo - Nagasaki, Oita - Hita
This luxury train connects Sasebo to Nagasaki annually until June 30th, 2018, and Oita to Hita from July 21st, 2018 to September 30th, 2018. Although the Kyushu Railway ordered the Aru Ressha from an American company in 1906, however, the luxury train "Phantom" was not used - as the Kyushu Railroad was nationalized. Today, it has been revived - after more than 100 years, giving passengers a unique way enjoy exquisite dining on a luxurious, historical train.
Kumamoto - Misumi
The Limited Express A-Train connects Kumamoto Station to Misumi Station. Experience the spectacular landscape of the Okoshiki coastline and Unzen Fugendake mountain. Also, Misumi station is the gateway to the Amakusa islands - another renowned tourist destination.
Miyazaki - Nango
