Passengers Using Medical Oxygen Cylinders

When Making a ReservationOPEN

While oxygen cylinders are classified as "Dangerous items" in terms of air transportation, only medical oxygen cylinders are allowed to be transported by air.
For passengers who require oxygen therapy on board, there is a medical oxygen cylinder rental service available (charged). If you want to use a medical oxygen cylinder at an airport, please make your own arrangements to do so.
Passengers who require oxygen therapy on board are required to submit a medical certificate specified by the airline.

Accompaniment of a companion

Passengers requiring assistance with eating, using the lavatory, etc. must be accompanied by another passenger who is able to assist.
Neither our ground nor cabin crew will be able to provide assistance in doing so.

Application of use of oxygen cylinders

Checking of oxygen cylinders

Please contact the "Disability Desk" as the specifications of the oxygen cylinders to be used on board need to be checked in advance.
When doing so, please use the Medical Oxygen Cylinder Checklist.
To board your flight, you must submit a Medical Certificate.

Check the oxygen cylinders you are going to use to ensure that they meet the following requirements:

  1. 1. It must have the "container certification mark (stamp to show that it has passed the required inspection)."
  2. 2. It must be labeled as "O2" (gaseous oxygen for medical purposes).
  3. 3. It must have passed a durability proof inspection (stress test) performed every 3 years (5 years for some cylinders).

The maximum size of medical oxygen cylinders permitted to be carried on board is 70 cm in height and 10 cm in diameter, and they must not weigh more than 5 kg per cylinder (required by the Civil Aeronautics Act of Japan).

Caution

None of portable concentrated oxygen cans for such purposes as sports, O2 Pack, and liquid oxygen can be carried into the cabin or kept in the cargo hold as checked baggage.

Oxygen cylinder rentals (prior reservation required / paid service)

We have a paid rental service for oxygen cylinders including masks and cannulas.

The rental period is from boarding to disembarkation.
Rental oxygen cylinders are only available for use on board.
Please prepare your own personal oxygen cylinders for use at the airport before your flight, during transfer, and after arrival.

You need to make a reservations to use rental oxygen cylinders. Since oxygen cylinders must be reserved by a certain deadline, please contact the "Disability Desk" in advance.
A medical certificate is required for the use of rental oxygen cylinders. Since the number of oxygen cylinders to be rented will be calculated and arranged based on the required oxygen flow rate declared in the medical certificate, we cannot accept any change in the number of oxygen cylinders once the arrangement has been made.
Respiration synchronizers are not available. Please note that due to the limited quantity of oxygen cylinders available for rent, there may be occasions where we are unable to meet your request.

  • - Reservation: 48 hours prior to departure
  • - Fee: JPY 3,000 per segment, regardless of number of cylinders
  • - Capacity: 400 liters per cylinder
  • *Oxygen flow setting can be adjusted in the range of 0.25 to 6.0 liters per minute.

Estimated time for procedures at the airport

When you are going to use your own personal oxygen cylinders, we will visually check them at the counter on the day of your departure even if you have declared them in advance.
If you use the oxygen cylinder rental service, the medical oxygen cylinders will be handed to you on board the aircraft.

Security CheckOPEN

It is performed with the same details and in the same manner as other passengers.
Simplified inspections or preferential treatment at security checks for reasons of a disability are not acceptable.
Each person must pass through the metal detector. In some cases, an inspection by contacting may be required, but please rest assured that the security staff will tell you what to do.
If you have any concerns, please tell us at the time of the reservation, or at the airport counter on the day of your boarding.

Boarding and In FlightOPEN

We will also assist you safely with boarding and getting to your seat. You may use our service with peace of mind.

Priority gate service

Passengers who require assistance can board the plane first as soon as the plane has been prepared to allow passengers to board. Please inform the boarding gate staff as soon as possible if you would like to use this service. Upon your request, a staff member will escort you to the aircraft entrance.

Location of oxygen cylinders

If you use medical equipment, please place it sideways under the seat in front of you, in principle. Please prepare a tube long enough.

  • *If it cannot be stowed under the seat, you or your companion may hold it on your lap during take-off and landing. If it is difficult to hold it on your lap during take-off and landing, you will need to purchase an extra seat and fasten it to the seat. Check here for the baggage size allowed on-board.
  • *If you bring oxygen cylinders that exceed the baggage size allowed on-board, you will need to purchase an extra seat and fasten them to the seat. Check here for the baggage size allowed on-board.

Operation of oxygen cylinders

Cabin crew are not permitted to assist passengers with handling and operating oxygen cylinders which are considered medical treatment.
The passengers or their escorts are requested to handle and operate oxygen cylinders.
*Oxygen cylinders loaded on board are for emergency purposes only and are not available for passengers for ordinary usage.

Upon request, our staff will escort you to the arrival lobby or to the person meeting you. Please feel free to let us know if you have request.
If you require assistance, you may have to wait a short while to be served.
